Commendations
What is a commendation?
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) considers a commendation to be a formal recognition given to and employee or unit for outstanding or exceptional execution of their duty or assignment. Commendations can be awarded for bravery, meritorious conduct, lifesaving actions, and other exemplary behaviors that go above and beyond the normal call of duty.
Who can file a commendation?
Anyone can file a commendation with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). This includes members of the public, community members, colleagues within the Department, and even supervisors who wish to recognize and employee or unit for outstanding or exceptional performance. Commendations can be made in person, by phone, or by submitting a LASD web form.
Is Filling a commendation safe?
Filing a commendation with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) is safe. The LASD values feedback from the public, and commendations are an important way to recognize and appreciate the outstanding work of their employees. Your commendation will be handled with care and respect, ensuring the privacy and integrity of the process.

We are working on expanding our “Virtual Deputy” program, which will allow members of the public to schedule virtual meetings with a deputy to file a complaint or commendation. This capability will be online soon, check back for updates.
