Record Requests

The Department receives many types of requests for records and information. Some requests are fall under the California Public Records Act (CPRA), while others do not.

The information below is provided to help ensure you submit to the correct unit within the Department. To help avoid delays in processing, please review the entire list below to ensure your request is submitted to the appropriate unit as misdirected requests may be returned to you.

Law Enforcement Related Records

(Not subject to the California Public Records Act)

Records and Identification Bureau services the following:

  • Booking Arrest information
  • Booking photographs and other related information to Bail Bondspersons in accordance with Penal Code section 11105.6
  • Clearance, Incarceration, and Adoption letters
  • Live Scan Fingerprint services for employment, licensing, or certification
  • Registration for Arson Offenders
  • Release of crime reports to victims
  • Criminal History Request
  • Record Sealing Unit

Interagency Requests from Government Agencies

Inter-Agency requests are not processed by the PRA Unit. Please contact the specific handling unit. 

Interagency requests may involve the following:

  • Department of Child and Family Services
  • CDC
  • District Attorney’s Offices
  • Records needed by other LE agencies (disco./Investigations)

Requests for information submitted under the Cleary Act

Traffic Collision Records/ Traffic Citation Contest in upcoming Court 1054 PC non-criminal

1054PC citation contest requests are not handled by the PRA Unit.

  • Traffic collision records to involved parties

If you wish to request discovery in connection with an upcoming non-criminal court case, please contact the specific station’s Traffic Bureau.

Service of Subpoena upon the Sheriff’s Department

Court Proceedings related to a Criminal Matter.  Examples include:

  • Any attorney representing a defendant requesting records related to criminal case.
  • A defendant requesting records related to a criminal case (if they are representing themselves).
  • Court ordered requests for criminal records.

Court Proceedings related to a Civil Matter.  Examples include:

  • Duces Tecum,
  • DMV subpoenas
  • Subpoena for body-worn camera video for custody exchanges

Patrol Car Dash Camera Video

As of April 2026, the Sheriff’s Department does not have Dash Cameras installed in patrol cars.

Video recordings from within Sheriff’s Department Custody (jail) Facilities

  • Requests for video footage from inside Sheriff’s Department Custody/Jail facilities

Video footage of this nature is exempt from public disclosure pursuant to Government Code §§7923.600-7923.625, 7922.000

Video recordings from Sheriff’s Department Facilities

(Excluding Custody Facilities)

  • Requests for video footage from Sheriff’s Department facilities such as a station public parking lot.
