In 1926, Temple Station was established as Station Number 5. Temple Station has had at least 4 different locations over the years, but it has been at its current site since 1957.

To date, Temple Station has lost two of its Deputies:

The first to give his life in the service of the Temple Station Community was Deputy Harold S. Blevins, who was murdered on October 12,1957. He was responding to a robbery in progress call where he was fatally shot by a career criminal and recent parolee.

The second and hopefully the last was Deputy David W. March in 2002. He too was shot by a career criminal, who fled the country to escape prosecution.

After remaining in hiding in Mexico for several years. He was eventually extradited and subsequently plead guilty, and is now serving his sentence in a California prison.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immortalized Deputy David W. March’s words and adopted them as our department creed.

“My goals are simple, I will always be painfully honest, work as hard as I can, learn as much as I can and hopefully make a difference in people’s lives.”

Vital Intervention, Directional Alternatives (VIDA) is a structured 16-week educational, intervention program utilizing Department personnel, volunteers, and community based organizations to provide an opportunity for non-violent “at-risk” youth to learn how to make better life choices and take responsibility for planning their future.

Participants are exposed to, and learn the importance of: Choices and Consequences; Community Service; Physical Training and Health Education; Counseling for the Participants and their Families; Career Guidance; and Life Skills Development.

Staff members provide drug testing and substance abuse counseling, crisis intervention, conduct mental health assessments, develop case-management plans, conduct home and school checks, and provide family guidance counseling and parenting classes.

The program requires participants to attend eight-hour Saturday sessions which focuses on cognitive approaches to addressing criminogenic behavior issues. Each week, the participants and their parents attend 90-minute mid-week, counseling group classes, which focus on family issues and parenting tools and techniques.

After-school enrichment, mentoring, homework assistance, book club, softball, basketball, art programs, hiking club, FamCamp, community service programs, and fitness program.

When calling for an extra patrol, please be ready with the dates requested, your name and telephone number, the location to be given special attention, any specific time of day of your concern, and the reason for your request.

We will also need a person we can contact for you in the event of emergency or problem at your location.

It may be for a vacation check, a strange occurrence or something that just doesn’t seem right.
