TICK FIRE – Re-population, Mandatory Evacuations and Road Closures

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, along with Los Angeles County Fire and other Unified command partners are beginning re-population efforts in the Santa Clarita Valley as they pertain to the #TickFire.

 

Effective Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 8:00 A.M., evacuation orders have been lifted for the areas listed below:

 

 

  • Any area south of Fire Station 132 (located at: 29310 on Sand Canyon Rd, Canyon Country) and the Sand Canyon off-ramp to Placerita.

 

  • Between Whites Canyon Road and Sierra Highway

 

  • South of Plum Canyon and North of Soledad Canyon Road

 

  • Areas Southwest of Sierra Highway at Linda Vista

 

 

AREAS STILL UNDER MANDATORY EVACUATION:

 

  • BAKER Canyon Road from Sierra Highway, north of Vasquez Canyon Road, top where it ends near 15142 Sierra Highway

 

  • Tick Canyon Road from Abelia Road to Summit Knoll Road

 

NOTE: These area will be evacuated throughout the day to determine when repopulation is safe.

 

 

Hard Closures will remain in effect till further notice for the areas below:

 

Both Entryways into Tick Canyon Road and Baker Canyon Road will remain closed until further notice.

 

Deputies will be checking identifications during the repopulation process, and will have a strong presence in the repopulated and evacuated areas for the next several days to ensure the protection of our residents and their property. Sheriff Deputies will continue patrolling the neighborhoods as a crime deterrent.

SAFETY MESSAGE – The public is reminded to stay vigilant on current fire conditions. Please continue to adhere to road closures and any evacuation warnings. A reminder to drive slowly and yield to emergency personnel in the area. There will still be smoke in the respective areas as firefighters continue firefighting operations. If at any time you feel unsafe, please call 911.

TICK FIRE 14 FREEWAY REOPENING

As of 1030 PM, and  Per @CaltransDist7  Two lanes/HOV lane of SouthBound 14 FWY are OPEN. Right lane and shoulder will be CLOSED from Agua Dulce Cyn Rd to Sand Cyn Rd for guardrail repair. Soledad Cyn Rd & Sand Cyn Rd off-ramps will also remain CLOSED. Northbound Lanes and ramps open.

  • Any area south of Fire Station 132 (located at: 29310 on Sand Canyon Rd, Canyon Country) and the Sand Canyon off-ramp to Placerita.
  • Between Whites Canyon Road and Sierra Highway
  • South of Plum Canyon and North of Soledad Canyon Road
  • Areas Southwest of Sierra Highway at Linda Vista
  • East of Sand Canyon
  • South of Sierra Highway to Soledad Canyon

The California Highway Patrol has just reopened the northbound lanes of the 14 Freeway. Sand Canyon and Soledad Canyon off ramps are still closed. The 14 Freeway southbound remains closed from Agua Dulce to Sand Canyon.

LASD Latest Tick Fire Information: (10-25-19)

Los Angeles County Firefighters, 163 Sheriff’s Deputies, along with many other police agencies, organizations, and volunteers continue to battle and manage the Tick Fire.

Currently our emphasis is mobile field force, evacuations, road closures, public safety and protection of the community.

The fire has burned approximately 4,300 acres and is currently 5 percent contained.

The Sheriff’s Department has evacuated approximately 40,000 residents safely from their homes.

Due to the closures on Highway 14, we ask residents to divert to the following roads and highways:

  • Interstate 5
  • California State Route 138
  • San Francisquito Canyon Road

We ask residents to avoid Bouquet Canyon Road. The Fire Department, Sheriff Deputies personnel are using the road as a primary pathway to deliver resources to the staging point.

The following schools are closed today:

  • Sulphur Spring Union School District
  • Castaic Union School District
  • Newhall School District
  • Both Campuses at College of the Canyons
  • Saugus Union School District
  • William S. Hart Union High School District
  • All Charter Schools

All Northbound Traffic from Soledad Canyon Rd to the following intersections:

  • Mammoth Lane
  • Shadow Pines Boulevard
  • Rue Entrée
  • Prairie Lane
  • Deep Creek Drive
  • Galeton Road Dr.
  • Solemint
  • Sierra Highway

All directions at:

  • Sand Canyon to Lost Canyon
  • Soledad Canyon to Miss Grace Drive
  • Sierra Highway to Vasquez Canyon

Eastbound Traffic at:

  • Whites Canyon Road to Steinway Street
  • Sierra Highway to Quinn Drive
  • Plum Canyon to Skyline Ranch Road

Westbound Traffic at:

  • Whites Canyon Road to Ashboro Dr.
  • Northbound Traffic at:
  • Plum Canyon to Skyline Ranch Road
  • Plum Canyon to La Madrid Dr.
  • Plum Canyon to Santa Catarina Rd.
  • Plum Canyon to Via Joyce Dr.

Alternate Route per California Highway Patrol

An alternate route if you are traveling from the Lancaster Area includes taking SR-14 NB to WB 138 to I-5

Mandatory Evacuations

The Fire Department has enacted Mandatory Evacuations. We ask residents located in the following areas to evacuate:

• South of the Highway 14, West of Agua Dulce
• North of Placerita Canyon
• Both Sides of Sand Canyon Road
