SHERIFF'S MUSEUM - Future Opening TBD

About Us

The Museum at the Hall of Justice, to be correctly known as the Interactive Center, will be an amazing place to visit! We are in various stages of assembly, without an opening date as of yet, but we are diligently working towards an exciting grand opening!

In the Sheriff’s Department section, we will share some of the fascinating history that was discovered by our staff while researching documents, photographs and artifacts that are in our inventory or were donated to us. We have identified so many gems we just can’t wait to share! We plan on presenting astonishing displays of our phenomenal past.

We look forward to welcoming all in the not so distant future!

Our Staff

Mike Fratantoni aka “Frat”
Mike is a 19-year veteran of the LASD. His extensive passion for history, most significantly that if our beloved department is deeply rooted. As anyone who knows him can attest – no one knows or can share LASD history as Frat does! On account of his extraordinary knowledge of the Sheriff's Department, coupled by his experience and tremendous photographic memory, he not only provides the vision, but leads it as our Department Historian and Museum Curator.

Dep. Don Roachford
Don is our only “other” full time employee and he spends his days going through identifying historic pictures – both from our Department and the Coroner’s Office, as well as cataloging photographs and documents. Additionally, he is an expert in digitizing old formats into current, searchable digital files, which makes him instrumental to us and the Department.

Dep. Laura Hall
Laura is a most passionately motivated, dedicated and efficient asset, whose assignments included SBI, Santa Clarita, SIB/SHQ/SIB. She spent years working International Liaison alongside such legends as Ed Sznaper and Thanh Ly. Her knowledge and experience are invaluable to the Museum, as she tirelessly advances our many interests - organizing, coordinating and executing seemingly endless special projects critical to the daily operation, the promotion and advancement of the LASD Museum.

Dep. Chris Miller
An amazing photographer, each and every one of Chris’ shots tells a story! He has a keen eye for excellence and can be counted on to capture our department's current history by taking photographs all around the Sheriff's Department. He, along with Frat, can be counted on to diligently research Department history. He further conducts interviews of retired deputies to gather firsthand information for the countless, diversified articles on LASD history we currently archive, and those yet to come.

Sgt. Art Medina
Art most impressively retired after 34 years. His stunts included Narco, Industry, Norwalk and SEB. He offers a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience, and was a longtime volunteer at the STARS Center Museum. Art’s love for history, the work we do and our efforts, make him the perfect choice as our very own SRA and Retiree Liaison.

Dep. Dave Rathbun
This phenomenally talented, skilled and energetic retiree still goes at it as a dedicated Reserve! Dave worked SEB, ESD and is currently on staff at UCLA as a Paramedic Instructor. His Reserve time is spent as a mainstay at the Museum, and doubles as our Reserve Liaison. Once the Museum is operational, Dave will oversee our cadre of Museum Docents.

Dep. Juanita Navarro
As an 18 year veteran, Juanita is highly experienced in all areas of law enforcement – Custody, Patrol and Administrative. She is fluent In Spanish, and well beyond her dynamic personality, she possesses an intense knowledge of Departmental history. She is phenomenally perfect in her role as Sworn Liaison and keeps us current with interactive history as it unfolds. She further serves as our Committee Secretary.

Fabiola Olivares, Professional Staff
Fab is a brilliant, delightful and a formidable addition to our team, representing the thousands of civilian members as our Professional Staff Liaison. Her love of history, her well rounded 30 plus years Departmental experience, and her profound knowledge in the technical arena renders her the consummate Museum professional,

Joan Renner
Joan is not only our Volunteer Liaison, but our very own “prized” volunteer, who loves research and has a special interest in homicide cases, particularly those involving women. She is an author and a noted crime expert, having worked on shows such as Deadly Women, Evil Twins and various 1930 gangster episodes featured on the History Channel among many other shows.
