The Museum at STARS Center ws not our first. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department opened its first Historical Exhibit back in 1979 at Olvera Street
Every day, the Museum Staff works diligently toward this end. The careful preparation and the presentation of accurate subject matter is utterly essential. On account of the many hours of research that must go into very display, it can take up to days and sometimes weeks to put together, gathering all accompanying artifacts. No museum ever opens quickly, but we are doing our best. Therefore and on account of all the preparation that must take place for even the smallest of displays, having the Museum open now would be a huge distraction, and would severely delay our efforts. Not to mention the fact that the Museum is not yet set up to welcome visitors, as we are in there every day working. As in any work zone, potential hazards are all around and we need for it to be a safe environment before we welcome guests.
An Interpreter Center is not a museum, but to a great extent – it’s much more! On account of having received funds from the Federal Government, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission deemed that we offer a center to present the fascinating story of the Hall of Justice, in an interactive manner versus just a static one.
From day one, the Hall of Justice housed three entities – the Coroner’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Therefore, the Interpretive Center will feature all three departments, not just ours. It’s a special collaboration and we are excited to go back in time.
