Today, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood Station announced details for their annual Community Academy. The event will take place over six consecutive Wednesday evenings, from September 6 to October 18.
About the Community Academy
The Community Academy curriculum offers West Hollywood residents an inside look at the operations of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. Attendees will:
- Gain a comprehensive view of patrol operations, which are the heart and soul of our station’s efforts in West Hollywood.
- Deep dive into how our dedicated specialty teams address mental health challenges in our community.
- Be introduced to specialized units that often operate behind the scenes, such as SWAT, K9 units, and more.
- Experience firsthand what it’s like out in the field with an opportunity to go on a ride-along with one of our deputies.
The Community Academy is also an opportunity to connect with the dedicated personnel of the West Hollywood Station and engage with fellow West Hollywood community members.
Following its hiatus during the pandemic, the Community Academy resumed in 2022. Participants noted how much they learned about the various law enforcement practices that play a role in the city’s safety.
One former attendee commented, “Through the program, I became more aware of different units in the Sheriff’s Department, such as SWAT, Crime Analysis, and the Met Team. Getting to know different deputies and hearing about their experiences and motivations for joining the force provided a deeper understanding of the department.”
