08/29

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Suspect Outstanding
TSB Deputies responded to Monrovia Metro Passenger Station regarding an assault call for service. Deputies contacted an adult male (Victim) who stated the was approached and attacked by another male adult without provocation. The suspect punched the victim and pulled him off the train. The suspect pushed the victim off the platform and the victim fell to the ground. The suspect fled the location. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation.

Assault on a Metro Bus Operator – Suspect in Custody
TSB Deputies were flagged down at El Monte Bus Terminal by a Metro Supervisor (Victim). The victim stated an adult female (Suspect) just assaulted him. Deputies located and arrested the suspect without incident. Arrest Made While conducting platform checks at Willowbrook Metro Passenger Station, TSB Detectives recognized an adult male who was wanted from a robbery incident that occurred on 08/01/24. The suspect was arrested without incident. 08/26 Vehicle Versus Bus Collision TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Almont Street in the City of Beverly Hills regarding a vehicle vs bus collision. The bus was travelling eastbound on Wilshire Boulevard when it struck the open door of a parked vehicle. No injuries were reported, and the bus and vehicle sustained minor damage. Beverly Hills PD responded to the location and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Assault – Suspect Outstanding
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Elmbrook Drive in the City of La Mirada regarding an assault call for service. Deputies contacted an adult male (Victim) who stated the bus was full when he boarded. He located a seat with a plastic bag on it, and asked the adult female sitting next to it if she would move the bag. She did not respond, so the victim moved the bag, which caused the female to become upset. Another adult male (Suspect) who was seated nearby approached the victim and began punching him. The suspect exited the bus and fled the location. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation.

Theft – Suspect(s) Outstanding
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Artesia Metro Passenger Station regarding a copper wire theft report call for service. Deputies contacted Metro personnel who stated they received an alert at approximately 0315 hours and observed approximately 20 feet of copper wire missing from the track area approximately 300 feet south of the platform. The damage and repair costs were estimated to be approximately $500. 08/24 Assault on Law Enforcement Personnel – Suspect in Custody TSB Deputies were flagged down at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard in the City of Santa Monica regarding a disturbance. Deputies contacted a Metro bus operator who stated an adult male (Suspect) was banging on the bus doors, demanding to be let in. The bus was out of service and the operator refused entry to the suspect. When deputies arrived, the suspect stated he wanted to go to jail and without provocation, assaulted a deputy. A use of force occurred. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation prior to booking.

Robbery – Suspect Arrested

TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Small Drive and Wilshire Boulevard in the City of Beverly Hills regarding a robbery call for service. Deputies contacted an adult female (Victim) who stated an adult male (Suspect) approached her and threatened to kill her. Fearing for her life, the victim ran to the front of the bus. The suspect took the victim’s purse and exited the bus. Deputies located and arrested the suspect. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Carrying a Concealed Firearm – Suspect Arrested
TSB Deputies responded to El Monte Bus Terminal regarding a person in possession of a firearm call for service. Deputies located and detained an adult male (Suspect) and recovered a firearm from his possession without incident. 08/22 Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Suspect Outstanding TSB Deputies responded to Compton Metro Passenger regarding an assault call for service. Deputies contacted an adult male (Victim) who stated while navigating through a crowded train, he accidentally bumped into another adult male (Suspect) who became irate and punched the victim several times. The victim stated he fell backward and lost consciousness. The suspect exited the train at Compton and fled the location on foot. The victim refused medical treatment.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Suspect Arrested
TSB Deputies responded to Firestone Metro Passenger Station regarding a medical emergency. Deputies contacted an adult male (Victim) who stated while in the elevator, his bicycle brushed against the leg of another adult male (Suspect). The suspect became irate and punched the victim. The victim and suspect exited the elevator, and the suspect continued to physically assault the victim by throwing the victim’s bicycle at him. The suspect was located and arrested without incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation.

Attempted Murder – Suspect Arrested
TSB Deputies responded to Allen Metro Passenger Station regarding an assault call for service. Deputies contacted an adult female (Victim) on the platform who stated she was assaulted in an unprovoked attack by an adult male, whom she did not know. The victim was punched numerous times and fell to the ground, where the suspect continued to punch her. The suspect pushed the victim onto the tracks and dragged her across the cement freeway divider and into the #1 traffic lane on the 210 Freeway. The victim was able to escape from the suspect and returned to the platform. She was transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation. The suspect was located and arrested at the intersection of Allen Avenue and Villa Street by LASD-TSB personnel without incident. A press release was authored and released to the media.

Battery on a Bus Operator – Suspect Outstanding
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in the City of West Hollywood regarding an assault call for service. Deputies contacted the bus operator (Victim) who stated while stopped at the location, an adult male (Suspect) became upset with the bus operator because the bus operator did not stop at the Metro train station. The suspect punched the victim. The suspect exited the bus and fled the location. The victim refused medical treatment.

National Night Out
TSB hosted its annual National Night Out at Rosa Parks Metro Passenger Station. More than 200 Metro patrons and local residents attended the event, which included a performance from Tommy the Clown and his T-Squad, free ice cream and tacos, a static display of law enforcement tools and vehicles, games, music, free backpacks filled with school supplies, and haircuts for the local children. National Night Out is held on the 1st Tuesday of every August across the US with the intent of building strong community relationships between residents and law enforcement.

Battery on a Bus Operator – Suspect Outstanding
TSB Deputies were conducting a bus check at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and the 150 Freeway in the City of Los Angeles when they were flagged down by a bus operator (Victim) who stated while traveling southbound on Vermont Avenue, an adult male (Suspect) alerted the victim he wanted to exit. The bus operator was unable to stop the bus where the suspect had requested to stop due to construction in the area, causing the suspect to become upset. The suspect began to argue with the bus operator. When the suspect walked to the front of the bus to exit, he spat at the victim. The suspect exited the bus and fled the location.

Battery on a Bus Operator – Suspect Outstanding
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Bandini Boulevard in the City of Vernon regarding an assault call for service. Deputies contacted the bus operator (Victim) who advised them that while travelling southbound on Atlantic Avenue and Whittier Boulevard in the City of East Los Angeles, an adult male aboard his bus approached the front of the bus and began tampering with the TAP machine. The bus operator advised him to stop. The suspect responded by reaching over the plastic protective barrier and punched him. Fearing for his safety, the bus operator stopped the bus and opened the bus doors. The suspect exited the bust and fled the location. The bus operator drove the bus to the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Bandini Boulevard in the City of Vernon pending the arrival of law enforcement. The victim refused medical treatment.

Robbery – Suspects Outstanding
TSB Deputies responded to the Willowbrook Metro Passenger Station regarding a robbery call for service. Deputies contacted an adult female (Victim) who stated she was standing in the bus bay when she was approached by two adult males (Suspects). One of the suspects simulated having a weapon under his shirt and demanded the victim’s purse. The victim, in fear for her life, handed her purse to the other suspect. The suspects fled the location on foot. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Robbery – Suspect Outstanding
TSB Deputies responded to the Vermont Metro Passenger Station regarding a robbery report call for service. Deputies contacted an adult female (Victim) who stated she was approached by a group of four to five male adults on the platform earlier that evening. One of the adults (Suspect) tried to grab her cell phone from her hand. The victim tried to pull away from his grasp, but the suspect held on to her hand and the cell phone. The suspect took her phone and fled the location on foot. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Traffic Collision – Suspect Arrested
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of 119 Street and Willowbrook Avenue in the City of Los Angeles to a vehicle stuck on the tracks. Deputies contacted a California Highway Patrol Officer who stated the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and crashed through the fence causing the vehicle to stop on the tracks. The suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital for observation prior to the deputies’ arrival. The vehicle was removed from the tracks and Metro resumed normal operations. 07/02 Brandishing a Knife, Vandalism – Suspect Arrested TSB Deputies responded to the Firestone Metro Passenger Station regarding a person aggressively stabbing a barrier being used by Metro mechanics while they worked on an elevator. Deputies arrested the suspect who waved a knife in a threatening manner and punched several holes in the barrier the employees were using. The damage was estimated to be approximately $1200.

Felon in Possession of a Firearm – Suspect Arrested
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Central Avenue and Los Feliz Road in the City of Glendale regarding a man with a gun call for service. Deputies contacted the bus operator who approached an adult male (Suspect) who was sleeping and observed a handgun in the suspect’s waistband. Glendale PD arrived on scene, evacuated the bus, and contained the scene. Deputies assigned to the TSB Special Assignment Unit (SAU) began giving callouts. The suspect exited the bus and was arrested without incident. A firearm with ammunition was recovered from the suspect.

Assault on a Metro Operator – Suspect Arrested
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Montebello Boulevard and Paramount Boulevard in the City of Montebello regarding a business disturbance call for service. Deputies contacted the Metro bus operator (Victim) who stated an adult male patron (Suspect) became upset due to the bus not stopping directly in front of the bus stop and a verbal altercation ensued. The suspect approached the driver and started banging on the partition. The suspect bent the sheet metal, creating an opening. The suspect retrieved a fire extinguisher and swung it at the victim but missed. The victim took the fire extinguisher away from the suspect. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Suspect Arrested
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Shenandoah Avenue and Slauson Avenue in the City of Ladera Heights regarding an assault call for service. Deputies contacted an adult female (Victim) who stated she was seated inside the bus when she got into a verbal altercation with an adult male (Suspect). During the altercation, the suspect produced a knife and lunged at the victim. Deputies located the suspect and arrested him without incident. The victim was not injured.

TSB Staff Attend LAPD National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Union Station
TSB staff attended the Los Angeles Police Department – Transit Services Division community event at Union Station celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. TSB presented a booth with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and TSB information and goodies and continued to build a collaborative relationship with our LAPD counterparts.

Public Safety Efforts
TSB Captain Shawn Kehoe and Metro Chief of Safety Gina Osborn attended the Downtown Santa Monica Inc. monthly board meeting to address safety and security efforts on the Metro Expo Line. Highlighted was Metro and TSB’s multi-layered approach with specialized teams and fixed posts, Transit Mental Evaluation Team (TMET) outreach, and collaborative efforts with the City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica Police Department. Board members noted an improvement in safety since the implementation of the existing deployment model.

Train Versus Vehicle Collision, Minor Injuries
TSB Deputies responded to a train versus vehicle traffic collision at the California Boulevard grade crossing in the City of Pasadena. The vehicle entered the intersection and collided with the train. The driver of the vehicle was extracted and transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation. The train operator was also transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation. A bus bridge was established between Fillmore and Del Mar Passenger Stations until the investigation was complete.

Assault on a Bus Operator (Suspect Outstanding)
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of 4th Street and Colorado Avenue in the City of Santa Monica regarding an assault call for service. Upon the arrival of deputy personnel, the bus operator (Victim) was being medically treated by a local fire department. The victim stated while he was stopped at the location, bus patrons were exiting and entering the bus. A male adult (Suspect) reentered the bus and spat in the face of the victim without warning or provocation. The suspect exited the bus and left the location southbound on 5th Street and out of view. The victim was transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment.

TSB Conducts Two Presentations to Transportation Safety Administration Advisory Peer Group and APTA Transit Law Enforcement Group
TSB Lieutenant Darland met with over 200 members of the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) Peer Advisory Group (PAG), American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and members of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Public Transit Policing and Transit Industry Security via teleconference. Lt. Darland presented information regarding the specialized units at Transit Services Bureau (TSB). TSB will continue to participate in future PAG meetings to build collaborative relationships with other transit law enforcement agencies.

TSB Special Assignment Unit Participates in Emergency Response Demonstrations at SoFi Stadium
Members of TSB’s Special Assignment Unit (SAU) demonstrated emergency responses to scenarios involving active shooter and hostage situations during a training exercise at SoFi Stadium. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) – ISTEP (Intermodal Security Training & Exercise Program) hosted the demonstration. Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) personnel also monitored our response during the exercise.

Parole VeriTracks Training at STARS Center
TSB Detective Bureau and TSB Deputies attended VeriTracks training through the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR). VeriTracks is an investigative tool that allows law enforcement personnel access to review historical location data for parolees wearing an ankle monitor which could tie paroled individuals to crimes on the Metro system.

TSB ROC Station Dispatch Desk “NG911” Inspection Completed
An inspection of the TSB Dispatch Desk 911 phone system was conducted by the Communications and Fleet Management Bureau (CFMB) and CA State representatives. The desk passed all mandatory requirements.

TSB Deputies Provide Security for Metro Staff, Santa Monica Fire Department During Train Fire Exercise
TSB Deputies assisted Metro and the Santa Monica Fire Department with an annual train fire exercise at the 4th Street Metro Passenger Station. The exercise was intended to test the response of Metro staff and local fire departments to a fire involving a train.

Crime Suppression Operation Continues on Blue/A-Line
The Special Assignment Unit (SAU) along with the Commuter Enhancement Unit (CET) continue to conduct extra patrol on the A-Line. Uniformed TSB Deputies ride trains and patrol Metro passenger stations. Appropriate law enforcement action is taken for suspects who commit any crime on Metro trains or property.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Knife/Suspect Outstanding)
TSB Deputies responded to the intersection of Century Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard in the City of Inglewood regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call for service. They contacted a male (Victim) who stated he was riding the bus when he observed a male adult (Suspect) disciplining his children. The victim began to engage the suspect when the suspect stood up and punched the victim in the face while holding a knife in his hand. The suspect exited the rear of the bus and began to walk with his children southbound on Crenshaw Boulevard and out of view. The victim was treated at the scene and was not transported to the hospital.

Spousal Battery (Suspect Arrested)
TSB Deputies responded to Willowbrook Metro Passenger Station and contacted a female (Victim), who said she was involved in an argument with her boyfriend while riding the train. The argument escalated and her boyfriend (Suspect) punched her. The suspect also struck her once with his cell phone. When the train stopped at Willowbrook Metro Passenger Station, the suspect fled westbound
toward the bus layover area where he was located, detained, and arrested without incident. The
victim refused medical treatment.

Assault (Suspects Outstanding)
TSB Deputies responded to the 4th Street Metro Passenger Station in the City of Santa Monica regarding an assault call for service. The deputies contacted a female adult (Victim) who said she was assaulted by a male adult and female adult (Suspects) at the 4th Street Metro Passenger Station. The victim was videotaping the area on her phone when the suspects saw her and asked her not to tape them. The victim continued to video the area and was attacked by the suspects. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation. The suspects fled the location in an unknown direction.

Battery (Suspect Arrested)
TSB Deputies responded to the Norwalk Metro bus layover regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call for service. The deputies contacted a female (Victim) who said she was waiting at the bus bay when a male (Suspect) approached her and without provocation, began choking her from behind, causing her to nearly lose consciousness. The suspect was located, detained, and arrested without incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition pending further medical evaluation.

Assault Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury (Suspect Arrested)
TSB Deputies responded to the Del Amo Metro Passenger Station regarding a possible kidnapping call for service. Deputies contacted a male (Victim) who stated he had been assaulted. The victim said his son was taken by the child’s biological mother during a custody exchange at the location. During the exchange, the mother’s new boyfriend (Suspect) attacked the victim (the child’s father). The victim lost consciousness and awoke to the mother, child, and suspect gone. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Deputies located, detained, and arrested the suspect without incident.

Narcan Administered, CPR Performed
TSB Deputies received a call of a person not breathing and CPR in progress at the Irwindale Metro Passenger Station. Deputies arrived within seconds and assumed CPR pending the arrival of the local fire department. Narcan was administered to the patient who was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Drinking in Public (Alcohol / Suspect Arrested
Transit Services Bureau (TSB) Deputies were riding a westbound C-line train approaching the Vermont Metro Passenger Station when they observed a male suspect drinking on board the train. The suspect refused to stop drinking. Deputies arrested the suspect without incident.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon Against a Transportation Worker (Knife /Suspect Outstanding)
At 3:31 PM, TSB Deputies responded to Atlantic Boulevard and Cesar Chavez Avenue, Monterey Park, regarding an assault on a bus operator in progress call. The male Hispanic adult suspect was detained and arrested. The victim (a Metro female bus operator) stated the suspect brandished a knife and began striking the plastic barrier to injure the operator. The barrier was broken by the suspect who fled on foot. The bus operator was not injured.

Robbery (Electric Scooter / Suspect Outstanding)
At approximately 9:12 PM, TSB Deputies received a call for service for medical assistance and assault that had just occurred in the 11000 Long Beach Blvd on the C Line in the City of Lynwood. The victim reported that, while on board the train, a black male, age unknown, and a black female, age unknown both wearing white shirts, tased him and punched him several times in the head causing him to lose consciousness. The suspects stole his electric scooter. The suspects were last seen leaving the platform entering the elevator toward Long Beach Boulevard and out of view.

Attempt Murder / Robbery (Suspects Arrested)
While conducting a patrol check of Monrovia Metro Station, TSB Deputies heard a disturbance on the platform and went to investigate. As they approached the platform, they observed a male white adult on the ground, lying in a pool of blood. The victim required medical attention but was conscious and breathing. The victim stated two male adults violently punched him in the head several times knocking him to the ground and causing him to temporarily lose consciousness. The victim was stomped and kicked by the suspects with a shod foot (steel-toed boots) several times while he was lying on the ground. The suspects also took property from the victim after the assault. With the assistance of the TSB desk, the deputies were able to locate, detain, and arrest both suspects. Both suspects were arrested.

Assault / Great Bodily Injury (Suspect Outstanding)
At approximately 11:30 AM, TSB Deputies responded to Culver City Metro Station regarding a
person bleeding from the head. Upon their arrival, they contacted a male adult who was bleeding
from the head. The victim stated as he was on the platform waiting to board a train, an unknown
male adult pushed him off the platform and onto the train tracks. The victim stated the attack was
unprovoked. The victim hit his head on the tracks causing an approximate 1/2 – 1 inch laceration to
his forehead. The victim was able to get back onto the platform and confront the suspect, but the
suspect boarded a westbound train and was not located.

Assault / Elder Abuse Allegation (Suspect Outstanding)
On July 9, 2023, at 2:05 AM, TSB Deputies responded to the 19000 block of South Normandie Avenue in the City of Torrance regarding a possible assault call for service. The TSB Deputy spoke with the victim, who stated he asked the MTA Bus Operator (the suspect) of “Bus 115,” whom he described as a male black adult, forty to fifty years old, approximately seven feet tall (no further details), for assistance in bringing his wheelchair onto the bus. The suspect refused to assist the victim. The victim boarded the bus with his wheelchair and traveled to a bus stop near Victoria Street and Figueroa Street in the City of Carson. After arriving at the destination, the victim asked the suspect for assistance in getting his wheelchair off the bus. The suspect initially said no, but then assisted the victim. The suspect and victim began to argue, and the suspect punched the victim. The suspect then boarded the bus and fled in an unknown direction. The victim received medical
treatment at a local hospital.
