#CrimeTimeTuesday #LASD Homicide Bureau Detectives and LA District Attorney’s Office Collaboration Leads to Conviction, 40 year Prison Sentence

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Detectives investigated the shooting death of a woman, and the wounding of a man that were discovered Saturday, July 1, 2017. The victim’s ex-husband was arrested sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison for the crime.

On Monday, August 12, 2019, 41 year-old Efrem Ruben Lozoya of Pico Rivera was sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison for killing his ex-wife and wounding and paralyzing her boyfriend after pleading guilty last month.

On Saturday, July 1, 2017 suspect Efrem Lozoya was dropping off their 7 year-old daughter at the victim’s apartment in the 13900 block of Coteau Drive, unincorporated Whittier.
Their 9 year-old son had opened the door for suspect Lozoya and allowed him entry. Once inside the apartment, Lozoya stormed into the bedroom where the victims, his ex-wife and her boyfriend, were located. Suspect Lozoya shot both of them.

The children, upon hearing the gun shots, ran to a neighbor’s residence.
Suspect Lozoya fled from the apartment right after the shooting.

Norwalk deputies received a call for shots fired, and upon arrival found the victims, Nereida Villanueva, 33, dead and her boyfriend, a Male Hispanic, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Homicide detectives were summoned to the scene to investigate the murder and attempted murder.
After several hours the suspect turned himself in.

Two years after the crime, Efrem Loyoza pleaded guilty in court to one count each of second-degree murder and attempted murder, and also admitted to intentionally discharging a handgun which caused great bodily injury and death.

Loyoza was subsequently sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison.
Deputy District Attorney Araceli Otero prosecuted the case.

It is truly astonishing, and more than just a bit unbelievable, that in this day and age we still have cops who just don't get it. Once again, we have an ill informed, un-trained LASD Deputy who doesn't understand basic Constitutional freedoms. In 2019. My God! Will this nonsense ever end? youtu.be/NTPNnrbPinc
