What Makes the Foundation Different?
                    Why Its Programs Work

Direct Law Enforcement Involvement
STAR, VIDA, YAL, START and BEAR

offer unique opportunities for learning, relationship building and mentoring for youth who interact directly with deputy sheriffs in a positive, non-threatening environment

Learn, Grow, and Have Fun
Through the support of Deputies, children in these programs are provided with the tools they need to succeed in life, while also having fun.

A True Public/Private Partnership
The Foundation’s programs do not rely solely on taxpayer support. Volunteers are a mainstay, while funding and in-kind contributions come from private foundations, corporations, small businesses, schools, concerned individuals, Sheriff’s deputies and their families, in addition to the County of Los Angeles and local municipalities. Nationally, no other law enforcement crime prevention program is supported by a non-profit organization in this manner.

Target Age Group
The Foundation’s various programs reach children from 3rd through 12th grade, something many other youth programs cannot accommodate.
