Commander Marilyn Baker - Biography |

|
Marilyn E. Baker, a 30-plus-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was promoted to the rank of Commander by Sheriff Lee Baca and assigned to the Leadership and Training Division. Commander Baker's career with the Sheriff's Department began in August 1978, and upon graduation from the Academy, she was assigned to the Sybil Brand Institute for Women. She transferred to Carson Station and then to the Training Bureau before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1987. As a Sergeant, she worked Lomita Station and the Substance Abuse Narcotics Education (SANE) Unit. She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1994 and was assigned to the SANE Unit, Sybil Brand Institute for Women, Lomita Station, Homicide Bureau, and Office of the Undersheriff. She was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2003, where she assumed command of Twin Towers Correctional Facility. In February 2005, she assumed command of East Los Angeles Station. Commander Baker attended Los Angeles Harbor College, where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. Se obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree from California State University, Long Beach through the Department's LASD University program. Commander Baker resides in Signal Hill with her husband, Dennis. In her spare time, she enjoys flying, reading, fishing, snorkeling, and playing sports. She was a member of the Department's Women's Volleyball Team for more than 20 years. She is currently a member of the Department's Boxing Committee and helps coordinate many events. |
